- The Rapture Event
1 Thessalonians 4:16–17
“For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord.”
This passage paints a picture of believers being taken up (raptured) to be with Christ.
- What About Those Left Behind?
Matthew 24:40–41
“Then two men will be in the field; one will be taken and one left. Two women will be grinding at the mill; one will be taken and one left.”
This implies that not everyone will be taken — some will remain.
- Many Will Still Believe Afterward
Revelation 7:9, 13–14 describes a “great multitude” emerging from the great tribulation:
“These are the ones coming out of the great tribulation. They have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.”
This indicates that even after the rapture and the start of tribulation, many will turn to Christ and find salvation — often through hardship and persecution.
- The Cost of Following Christ Will Be High
Revelation 13:15–17 warns that those who refuse the mark of the beast will struggle to buy or sell. Many who turn to Christ after being left behind may face martyrdom.
Matthew 24:9–10 tells us that believers will be “hated by all nations” and will endure tribulation.
✅ Summary:
If the rapture occurs before the tribulation (the pre-trib view), those left behind still have the chance to repent and follow Christ, but it will come at a steep price. They might still gather in places called churches, but it won’t resemble today’s worship — it will be underground, fraught with persecution, and often perilous.
